Sam (or Sammy) was in sad shape when he was found wandering the street.
He was hungry, dirty, and when seen by the veterinarian was also
found to have sore paw pads and a cut on one of his legs.
He may have had to fend for himself for a long time, but he is happy
to rescued and to have a home again.
Since being rescued, Sam has had good care, yummy food, and lots of love.
His physical wounds have healed,
he is eating regularly and uses the litter box. He returned
to cleaning himself, and his fur has become very soft as well.
He is a Black and White Domestic Short Hair (DSH).
We think he is between 2 and 3 years old.
He has had all his shots, been neutered, and was found negative
for FIV and Feline Leukemia.
Since being in foster care he has acquired better social skills
with people and dogs. He reverts when other cats or puppies have been
in the house, so it would be best if he were the only cat.
He seems to have adjusted to cat-friendly dogs.
Because of his early trauma, he
would do best in a home with only adults.
He has developed some interesting "likes". Sammy likes to drink out
of the sink or bathtub, rather than his own water bowl. Of course
he prefers "just poured" water - after someone has washed their
hands in the sink, or just taken a shower. He even prefers the dogs'
water bowls to his own. But what he loves to do is play with a
small trickle of water in the sink. Of course, he doesn't enjoy
it when his wet paws are dried, so we generally let him walk it
off on a towel as he leaves.
Sam enjoys looking out windows, especially if he can watch birds
or bugs. He makes a very strange sound when stalking a housefly.
And he has learned how to push curtains or blinds out of
his way when they interfere with his bird watching, so we try to
open the blinds for him during the day. He's a sweet boy who has
mostly recovered from a rough start in life, and would love to have
a good home of his own.
