Hi, I'm Rocko and I'm a 1 year old male Canaan/Basenji mix! I'm
housebroken and SUPER lovable. I currently live with another dog
and a child, and I like everyone I meet! I'm playful and my favorite
games are fetching and chase!
Canaan dogs are a rare herding breed from Israel - one of the oldest breeds in the world! The part of me that is truly "Canaan" is that I'm a good watchdog so I tend to do great with small kids (and will even try to "herd" them and keep them together!). I also like to be very clean, and will often groom myself like a cat. Basenjis are a hound breed, and the Basenji part of me is alert, affectionate, energetic, and curious. The Basenji part of me is also a BIG chewer, something I am not likely to completely grow out of, so it's important to crate me during the day and supervise me otherwise. So long as I have lots of toys and bones and adequate, consistent training with regard to what I cannot chew, I should be a very good boy. If I go to a home with kids, it would be important to keep me out of any areas where children's toys might be scattered about on the floor, because I will get confused and think they are mine to chew. |

Due to the combination of both breeds, I will be very independent once
I settle in and should not be trusted with non-canine pets. I will
also need a fence and supervision (or leashed walks/dog park
visits/doggie daycare for apartment dwelling humans!), because both
Basenjis and Canaan dogs can be clever fence climbers when left alone
outside. I really don't require much exercise, but lots of toys
(especially Kongs!) will keep me mentally stimulated, which is the
most important part for me. Dog training would be great too, but
only in short sessions because both of my breeds tend to become
distracted easily.
