Mia

DSH, female, spayed, white, about 10 years old.

Mia is a sweet momma cat who has had a hard life. She is looking for a special person - someone who would pamper an older, shy retired momma cat and give her the care and loving that she deserves. Mia is a lovely white cat, with a slightly oriental-looking face, one yellow eye and one blue eye.

Mia was rescued from the mean streets by "Tony the Cab Driver," who brought her to his friend Emily, an experienced animal rescuer. The very pregnant momma cat, however, managed to escape from the cab into Emily's garden. Emily was able to catch her again, and within hours Mia delivered her 6 kittens. Emily worked very hard to get Mia healthy and nourished so that she could properly care for all these tiny babies. Mia even took on a little orphan kitten - when you have 6 what's one more? CARA arranged for her vet care and a new foster home.

Mia's new foster mom noticed that Mia was not doing well - she wasn't grooming herself or her kittens and she seemed to be in pain. So back to the vet she went. Mia was apparently suffering from a uterine infection - thank goodness this was caught in time - and she was treated with antibiotics. We also learned that Mia is an older gal, probably about 10 years old. She had obviously been a stray for awhile. She was very bony, her paw pads were very rough and worn, her coat dull, and most of her teeth are gone. With the first dose of medication she began to feel better. During the next week Mia improved and began grooming herself and her babies.

Now the kittens are finding new homes. Mia has enjoyed lots of TLC and has had a chance to fill out and develop a shiny coat. Her white fur has a gray undercoat along her spine. She is rather passive, friendly but sometimes cautious, and still rather shy, doubtless due to her time (probably years!) on the streets.
